Patients with Limited Adherence to the Diet
Most of our patients followed the diet to the letter - and then were rewarded with a significant weight loss. Others followed the diet most of the time, breaking away occasionally in relation to hunger or social obligations (we are all human); their statistics are included in the overall results. The vast majority of our patients completed a 40 day program. The 26 day patients are not included in the above statistics. Also excluded from the main statistics and presented below are patients who did not follow the program most of the time. As you can see, when you do not follow Dr. Simeons' guidelines you do not obtain a significant reduction in weight.

Early Discontinuation

start) stopped early or dropped out of the program for the
reasons given below.

Patients who dropped out or stopped early did so primarily due to loss of motivation and/or hunger. We did not feel that the hCG program was the cause of M1dc's prostatitis, M3dc's disc disease flare up, M8dc's diverticular disease, or M2dc's upper respiratory tract infection. However, 10 days later M2dc experienced gall bladder inflammation, leading to cholycystectomy (surgical removal of the gall bladder). W98 also required cholycystectomy towards the end of her 40 day program. Rapid weight reduction by any means can lead to inflammation within the gall bladder (probably only in individuals with pre-existent gall bladder disease but we cannot say this with certainty). Thus our gall bladder event rate is approximately 0.4% of patients treated. Two patients experienced a transient flare up of gout. These side-effects of hCG-assisted weight reduction are not unexpected and are discussed by Dr. Simeons in his book. Two female patients experienced upper respiratory infections and stopped early; we feel this was the seasonal flu and not a direct complication of their weight loss program. One patient who was doing well was diagnosed with an unrelated problem and had to drop out early. A small number of patients developed urinary tract infection or pneumonia while on the program. These infections are likely incidental to weight loss, and not caused by weight loss. However, if significant infection occurs, we counsel you to stop hCG and immediately increase caloric intake to a Phase 3 level, emphasizing protein over carbohydrate, as 500 calories a day is not sufficient when your physiology is marshaling its resources to defend you against bacterial invasion. The program can be restarted (including the gorge days) after you have recovered.

Please Note - It is the position of the FDA and FTC that HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes more attractive or “normal” distribution of fat, or that it decrease the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets.
